What do we offer
Language teaching programs for children and adults in Prague.
Lessons for kids
Educational programs for kids have been compiled with regard to age and knowledge of students. Lessons are held so as to take the innate abilities of children into account in order to learn a foreign language and naturally develop their communication skills.
Courses for international exams for children and adults
As part of the preparatory courses for the international IELTS, PET, FCE, CAE exams, we prepare children, young people and adults for the Cambridge exams at the British Council. The lessons are being taught by experienced Czech teachers in tight cooperation with native speakers while using special study materials.
Language and methodology training for teachers
As part of further education of pedagogical staff we provide the English language and methodological courses for primary school teachers accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic. These are being led mainly by native speakers.
Online zoom courses
Group or individual courses for children and adults take place according to the schedule using the ZOOM platform, which, thanks to the possibility of sharing screens offers, in addition to personal contact, almost all the various possibilities that are common in teaching in person.
About us
Our language school has been providing services to a wide range of clients since 2005. Currently, we specialize mainly in lessons for children that are being conducted in preschools and elementary schools and are being led by native speakers. We offer preparatory courses for international exams (IELTS, PET, FCE, CAE) for children and adults – both individual and group courses. As part of further education of pedagogical staff, we offer accredited language and methodological training courses for primary school teachers, once again, led by native speakers. We offer these courses in two versions – full-time classroom sessions in person or the online form.
Differently than you´re used to
Language teaching at Alternativ CZ is based on the premise that anyone can learn a foreign language. It does not matter what your age is, nor does it matter what you do for a living or what schooling you have received previously. Because everyone learns languages in a different fashion, we don´t indiscriminately use the same method for everyone. We draw on a wide range of teaching methods to make the lessons fun and engaging with mind to improving each student´s language skills. The guarantee of success is derived from our qualified and experienced teachers, especially our native speakers.

Our teachers
We work mainly with native speakers who are both qualified and experienced in modern teaching methods and can inspire students in a unique way to easily learn a foreign language. All of our teachers have a university degree; in addition, they also have completed the TEFL methodological course focused on children and adults. Our employees also go through a complex recruitment procedure and are carefully hand-picked.

Teacher
Tanja is a language teacher – of German and Russian. She runs a language school and is open to new modern methods of teaching. She prefers to teach with native speakers. In addition to working in the organization of courses for children and adults, she is actively involved in traditional Chinese medicine.

My name is Erika Knopsnider, I am a teacher from Ohio and I am so excited for the opportunity to teach in the beautiful city of Prague. I have over 10 years of teaching experience (3 of which were spent in a daycare with children 4 and younger) and I love helping young minds grow. In my spare time I like traveling and staying active by doing crossfit. I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

Sage je z malého města ve Spojených státech. V květnu 2019 se přestěhovala do Prahy, kde navštěvovala The Language House a získala certifikáty TEFL a YLT (Young Learners and Teens). Má zkušenosti s výukou dětí i dospělých. Přestože je učitelkou angličtiny, doufá, že se naučí časem i více česky! Sage ráda tráví čas v přírodě – oblibuje pěší turistiku, cykloturistiku a koupání v jezerech a řekách.

Meredith graduated from Rogers Williams University in Bristol, USA, and is a certified TEFL lecturer in Chicago, USA. She teaches both children and adults English. She has extensive experience working with children, with whom she worked for several years as a volunteer. Her father is a teacher in an American kindergarten and highly appreciates his daughter´s fervor. In her free time Meredith likes to write and to travel.
Katya
Teacher
Katya was born in the USA and she studied in Stockholm, Sweden, and at the Donghua University in Shanghai, China. Her expert knowledge of several languages is reflected in her excellent methodological work in our kindergarten and elementary school English courses where she focuses on preparing kids for international Cambridge exams. She managed extremely well during the recent covid crisis with her online courses. She likes sports, literature and learning new languages.

Teacher
Laura comes from Finland, and she has a lot of experience living in different countries. TEFL certified English teacher to kids and adults. In her spare time, she loves cooking, sports and traveling.
Marie
Teacher
Marie graduated from the University of Oregon in Eugene, USA, and is a certified TEFL teacher. She teaches both children and adults English. She has experience working with children as a camp counselor in college. She absolutely loves Prague and is excited to be back in the classroom. In her free time, Marie likes to read and travel.
Rebecca
Teacher
Rebecca is from Tennessee in the United States but was living in Charlotte, North Carolina before moving to Prague in 2021. She got certified in TEFL and YLT (Young Learners and Teens). She has previous experience with kids as a summer camp counselor and childcare worker at an exercise studio. Rebecca enjoys being active in her free time whether that's playing sand volleyball, running, biking, or hiking. She also enjoys reading, traveling, and yoga.
Hailey
Teacher
Hailey is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She graduated from Florida State University in 2019 and is a TEFL certified English teacher. She enjoys working and talking with people of all ages. She has experience working with children in college for Dance Marathon, a fundraiser for children who are ill in Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Hailey enjoys being outside, especially during the winter (Florida never gets this cold!). She loves spending time with her loved ones, traveling, and eating new foods.

After returning from abroad, our only goal was to allow our children to continue studying English. We were looking for a school where we could further develop their knowledge of the English language, but at the same time would place an emphasis on the Czech language. We have found all of the above and more in the primary school in Prague 5, where Alternativ CZ offers its English native speaker lessons. Thanks to experiencing the afternoon English sessions with enthusiastic young teachers, our children are now looking forward to going to school; they speak two languages and talk about Sean and Alex as members of our family. We as parents are satisfied with what we consider important for our children.

I am very happy that my children had the opportunity to start learning English at kindergarten. We were very pleased with the native speaker teachers there. At trial classes for parents, we were able to see that children enjoy lessons very much. The teachers were able to form a nice relationship with our kids. Everything was a game.
We were able to continue with the same lessons at our primary school in the afternoon sessions. We are very grateful for the whole term, because it gave our children a great foundation for their future.
